SERVING VICTIMS AND PROVIDING RESTITUTION
For the Victim--BREAKING THE TRAUMA BOND
The treatment of sexual victims, of all ages, through Shasta Treatment
Associates combines a variety of unique techniques designed to heal the
wounds of sexual abuse, breaking trauma bonds that have traditionally
doomed victims to a lifetime of suffering. Sexual victims in this program
receive comprehensive Sexual Victim Trauma Assessments to first allow
discovery and understanding of trauma issues for effective treatment
planning. Through the unique technique of Sensory Based Treatment, the
Recovery Scrapbook is a constant reminder of therapeutic victory, allowing
victims the opportunity for a review of their treatment successes long
after the therapeutic work has been completed, AND celebrated. Within this
treatment milieu, family and community support is organized to provide
victims with an honorable status as first "the victim," innocent
and worthy of protection, then finally to a position of
"survivor," strong and prepared for a future of safety.
For the offender--RESTITUTION THERAPY
This unique therapeutic approach provides assessment and treatment for
sexual offenders, but different than other programs, RESTITUTION THERAPY
focuses on the needs of repairing the damage to the victim. This process
is designed to not only show respect for those who have suffered, but this
process is the ultimate in teaching sex offenders the empathy skills
needed to prevent further criminal conduct. The first goal of the program
is to repair the damage to the victim, in the form of emotional,
psychological and financial compensation. Through the second goal,
attending to the needs of the family, and the third goal, reducing
recidivism it is clear that the needs of the offender are secondary to the
needs of the "victim" whether that victim be an innocent child,
the family or the community. This comprehensive program holds offenders
accountable and yet at the same time provides offenders with the best
possible opportunity for a future of pro-social conduct.
